Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. Emma was only six when she made the decision to be an actor. She was trained for many years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford where she was taught acting and singing. Through a school play as well as the stage of a Stagecoach show, she was as the lead role at age 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was first cast in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford drama teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after having eight consecutive auditions. Emma's debut on the big screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. The movie broke all records for the opening weekend and sales, and it was the most-recorded 2001 movie. Critics have praised both the film as well as the performance of the three main young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an important British newspaper, called Emma's acting "amazing". Emma's performance was nominated and won five awards later for the movie.
